Taking good care of your dentures does not only promote good oral hygiene, but it could also prevent you from spending more money on another set. You don’t want to go through all the hassle and shedding fortune again, do you? So start handling your dentures with utmost care using the following tips:
- Remove dentures after eating and give them a rinse. This will remove food debris that may have stuck on your artificial teeth. Make sure you place a towel on the sink or counter in case you drop the dentures.
- Your mouth needs cleaning too. Don’t forget to clean your mouth as well after removing the dentures. A soft-bristled toothbrush can work well on your remaining natural teeth, tongue, and palate.
- Do a daily scrubbing on your dentures. While you’re at it, do so gently with the use of a mild denture cleaner. However, if you run out of such, a dishwashing liquid or a mild soap will do. Use a soft toothbrush to effectively remove any plaque or food deposits on your dentures.
- Soak your dentures overnight. To keep the shape of your dentures, they need to remain as moist as possible. You can soak them either in water or in a mild denture-soaking solution while you sleep. However, it is not a good idea to soak your dentures, especially when they have metal attachments, in solutions containing chlorine. Doing so could tarnish the metal.
