How KöR Teeth Whitening Works

The KöR Whitening System works by restoring your teeth’s youthful ability to absorb oxygen. The oxygen from the whitening gel is absorbed deeply into the tooth, dissolving and removing stain molecules.

The Science Behind KöR Whitening

Intrinsic tooth color is a result of large natural pigment and stain molecules trapped within the microstructure of teeth. The larger these molecules are, the more chromophores they contain, and the darker the teeth appear.

The KöR peroxide gels work by forming hydrogen peroxide as their end product. Hydrogen peroxide breaks down to water, oxygen, and numerous radicals and byproducts known as “bleaching factors” that lighten teeth.

Optimum whitening results are achieved only when these whitening gels are: fully potent; chemically influenced to produce a high percentage of free radicals (instead of simply oxygen and water); and are allowed extended time for these factors to diffuse thoroughly into the microstructure of teeth.

Achieving Long Lasting Results With KöR

Unlike other whitening methods, the KöR System is able to fully rejuvenate and restore teeth to their youthful ability to absorb bleaching factors. This is achieved by allowing pigments and stain molecules to be fully flooded by bleaching factors, thus thoroughly breaking down large stain molecules into ultra-small colorless and white particles.

The resultant conditioning and permeability of the teeth to bleaching factors facilitates easy, effective periodic at-home maintenance by patients, keeping the level of whiteness absolutely permanent, while still allowing patients to consume coffee, tea, red wine, etc.

How to Prepare For KöR Teeth Whitening?

The most important step to take when you are considering teeth whitening treatment is to consult with your trusted dentist. At Hampton Dental Associates, we perform a careful examination and consultation before recommending one of our powerful KöR teeth whitening treatments. Sometimes, all a patient needs is a routine dental cleaning to remove any plaque and tartar that may impede the bleaching agents from maximum efficacy. Sometimes, we need to perform a restorative or other cosmetic treatment to ensure that the brighter shade of the smile is consistent across all teeth that are visible in the smile. After your dentist confirms that your teeth and gums are in healthy condition, your next step to prepare for teeth whitening may be to begin using toothpaste for sensitive teeth. KöR teeth whitening systems are made for comfort and are less likely than traditional whitening treatments to cause sensitivity. However, if you tend to have more sensitive teeth naturally, the extra boost toward comfort can't hurt.

Who Is An Ideal Candidate For Teeth Whitening?

Professional teeth whitening is designed to lift even the most significant extrinsic stains. Our most powerful KöR whitening treatment, KöR ULTRA-T, was developed for those deeper tetracycline stains. Generally, older teens and adults with stains that exist in layers of enamel are good candidates for professional teeth whitening. Provided that your teeth and gums are healthy and infection-free, you may schedule your teeth whitening treatment soon after your exam and cleaning.

What Is The Recovery And Aftercare For KöRTeeth Whitening?

Because KöR is made for comfort, there is very little recovery and aftercare associated with treatment. If you experience sensitivity, start using special toothpaste for sensitive teeth and consume foods and beverages at room temperature. You can also take an over-the-counter pain reliever to alleviate minor discomfort. For a few days after your teeth whitening treatment, or for the duration of your home whitening, your primary task will be to maximize your results. To do this, you will want to avoid foods that are known to cause discoloration. As difficult as it may sound, avoiding beverages like coffee, tea, and red wine will help you get the best results from your teeth whitening. Keeping in mind that you're making a temporary sacrifice, consider enjoying these beverages through a straw if there are no other alternatives. For the first 48 hours after teeth whitening, it is also helpful to avoid acidic foods and beverages. Products like lemons, pickles, vinegar, and soda can weaken enamel and, after teeth whitening, the tubules in this layer of your teeth are already more open. Increased acidity can exacerbate the weakness of enamel and create a greater risk of both stains and sensitivity.

KöR Teeth Whitening Vs Traditional Teeth Whitening

KöR is a leading teeth whitening system because it has been made to exceed the capabilities of standard bleaching agents. The professional formula is powerful not only because of the gel itself but also because the KöR system uses trays that seal out the saliva and sulcular fluid that can dilute the bleaching agents that need to absorb into the teeth. With this combination of trays and whitening gel that also nourishes the teeth, the KöR whitening system can remain active for several hours versus 25-35 minutes. As such, it reaches a depth that other systems cannot, the microstructure of enamel in which stain molecules get trapped and bond with chromospheres. Chromospheres are magnetic molecular bonds that can accumulate over time. The more there are, the most light gets absorbed into teeth rather than reflected off of enamel. By removing stain molecules and chromospheres, KöR teeth whitening gives power back to your smile.

How Long Will The KöR Teeth Whitening Procedure Take?

The length of time for a KöR treatment will depend on the method you choose. Home treatments involve wearing your custom-fit whitening trays for a designated amount of time. Treatments that we conduct here in the office may take one to two hours. Our office will provide you with more detailed information once you have selected the KöR whitening protocol that will best meet your needs.

Is There Pain or Discomfort with KöR Teeth Whitening?

Many have experienced pain during teeth whitening. Maybe you’ve experienced it yourself. After years of research, development and clinical testing, Dr. Rod Kurthy, the inventor of KöR Whitening, introduced a whitening gel that, in most cases, produces little to no sensitivity. As a result, most patients have no discomfort from whitening when using this system. We have found KöR Whitening to be the gentlest whitening system available.
