October is National Dental Hygiene Month!

It’s a great opportunity to take a look at your dental hygiene routine to make sure that you are doing all you can to keep your teeth healthy and beautiful. It is also a great time to make sure that you aren’t having any warning signs that your teeth are in trouble.

Should you head to the dentist?

Going to the dentist at least twice a year is important to ensure your teeth are clean, but it’s also a way to make sure your teeth are healthy. There are other times you should make an appointment with your dentist, though – if your gums bleed, if you notice gum recession or chronic bad breath, or if your teeth or gums hurt, these could be signs of serious problems that should be taken care of as soon as possible.

For optimum oral health, here are some tips:

• Don’t forget to floss at least once a day! There is a wrong way to floss, believe it or not, and you may want to ask your dentist or hygienist the best way to do it.

• Avoid tobacco products.

• Brush at least twice a day, thoroughly but not too hard.

• Brush your tongue too, with your toothbrush or a tongue scraper.

• Antibacterial mouthwash can help to keep your mouth clean and germ-free. To prevent dry mouth, get one that is alcohol-free.

Why worry about dental health?

There are several reasons why you should take good care of your oral health – for one thing, you want a gorgeous smile, right? And, not taking care of your teeth and gums can not only mean tooth decay, but in the worst-case scenario it can also lead to other health problems throughout the body.

How are you going to celebrate National Dental Hygiene Month? No doubt you have big plans – but take some time to take good care of your teeth, by calling Hampton Dental Associates in Milwaukee for a cleaning, checkup, or if you are having any pain or problems. Call (414) 464-9021 for an appointment today!
